Ask Maria Elena

Maria Elena is the foundation for Runners Without Borders, Run the Course and Runnerverse.

they are trainers but are still on the heavy side. They do however release the heat so no sweaty feet after a hard workout. And when it comes to overall looks she says Brooks has hit it out of the park.

MARCH 2022 -Elena is the foundation for Runners without Borders and is taking a well deserved break this week in one of her favorite destinations, Cancun, Mexico. This on the heels of the Cancun Half Marathon and 10K which was held on March 6, 2022. I caught up with her and asked her about her favorite running attire.

Having to first suffer the 80 degree weather, the sunshine, blue skies and surf Elena broke down her hot and cold weather gear for me. For the hot weather races she wears a Nike breathable hat that keeps the sun off her head and lets the air pass through to keep from overheating. She owns several of these hats that have minor differences but all work well for her. In most race photos of Elena you will see her trendy head gear.

Elena also has tried other brands but they were either too hot, too tight, or just did not give her the comfort that it would stay on her head during a race.

Next Elena usually sports shades, Goodr generally, as they fit comfortably, stay on when she runs and let’s face it, they look really cool.

As for Elena’s top, this is a very sore topic for her. She sports the Nike Cool Breeze Dri-Fit top because it is extremely light and very breathable. Why is this a sore topic? Well, Nike discontinued this top a few years ago and nothing they make today comes close. Elena has bought up what she could from online vendors but eventually they will be gone.

You will also notice that Elena has the Tom Tom wireless headphones which she loves and are the best on the market in her opinion. They can handle the sweat, stay comfortably situated in the ears and also sound great. Here again unfortunately, these headphones have also been discontinued. She has a backup pair but is currently trying out the Apple Air pods 2 and they are working fine. At least she has options. Change for the sake of change is not always a good thing,

The cool breeze came in various colors, Elena is partial to the teal, pink, and blue.

As for her running pants, in the summer she has multiple brands that she likes. The important thing to her is that they are light weight, in the summer, as well as breathable, and for the winter she likes the Nike Dri-Fit wool pants as they keep her warm no matter how low the mercury goes.

Elena has been a die hard fan of the 2016 and 2017 Adidas Ultraboost caged and uncaged. Once again, like her top and headphones, Adidas drastically changed the Ultraboost and Elena feels that was not for the best. She is now experimenting with the Nike Infinity and Brooks Ghost 14. Elena also loves the Nike lightweight vest on those cold morning runs as noted in the photo above. And yes, that has been discontinued too. Well, there you have it.
